PARKER & JESS MANUEL

“Meet people where they are and point them to Jesus.”

I have been married to my beautiful wife, Jess, for seven years and we have four adventurous kids. Jess and I have served in a variety of different ministry roles over the past 14 years, including time overseas. From 2012–2017 I served as the missions pastor at Long Hollow located in Hendersonville, TN.

In spring 2015 we took a cross-country trip to celebrate the adoption of our two boys. On this trip we spent time praying through strategic cities. The Lord had been drawing our hearts to the West for several years for the purpose of planting a church. I’ll never forget the favor and peace we felt on our first visit. It was then we knew God was calling us to plant a church in Boulder, Colorado.

In 2017 our family was commissioned to serve as church planters in the heart of the city. We believe God is at work in Boulder, and we are excited to come alongside and play a small part in the big things He is already doing!

The purpose of Pinewood Church is to meet people where they are and point them to Jesus. We believe that the Word of God, illuminated by the Spirit of God, is enough to produce the people of God.

Our prayer is that the church would grow and be a place of shade and refuge for the people of Boulder and that they would truly find rest, community and the hope of Jesus. (Isaiah 55:6-13)

Our strategy is simple, we want everyone to know God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and make a difference in the world.

what we believe

The bible

The Bible is God’s Word, or His communication with us. It is inspired by Him, and is fully authoritative and without error. We can trust it in every circumstance and situation.

2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21

god

God has always existed in perfect power and holiness. He is Creator of the universe, and He rules over every aspect of creation still today. He exists in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:1-2, Deuteronomy 6:4

jesus

Jesus Christ is God’s Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully man. He lived a perfect life, died on a cross, and after three days, He defeated sin and death and rose from the grave. He will return one day to rule and reign.

John 1:1-18, Colossians 1:13-22

holy spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He works in the world to make all people understand their need for Jesus Christ, and He indwells every believer from the time of salvation. He empowers Christians to live a supernatural life.

Genesis 1:2, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 1:13-14

Salvation

Because of our sinful nature, the Bible teaches that man cannot enter into heaven no matter how good of a life he may have lived. Jesus Christ came to earth to take the punishment for the sin of all mankind, and our only hope for salvation is faith in the truth that Jesus died for our sin and made a way for us to gain the righteousness it takes to enter heaven.

Genesis 3, Romans 3:10-23, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9

The Church

The Bible teaches that the church is the body of Christ in the world today. A local church is made up of baptized followers of Jesus Christ. The church should live out the mission of Christ as His body.

Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:41-47, 1 Peter 5:1-5
